Article Title
Inserting 1 800 numbers in the Modified Digit table (form 22)
Publish Date
Jan-12-2006

Body/Solutions
Often end users, specifically Hotel owners will want to route all long distance calls through a carrier of their own choice. To do this the technician servicing the pbx is required to insert the carriers number in the insert field in the Modified Digit Table form 22. The carrier's number needs to be followed typically by a pause (*9)and then either by a *2 (wait for dial tone) or by a *3 (turn dtmf on) should you wish then to insert the carriers code. The carrier code can be manually inserted by the end user or by programming the carrier code after the 1 800 number, an example is displayed below. The example is broken down as follows and is only a example there are many different combinations that are out there, in some cases it is necessary to insert more then just a 1 second pause. Please note if this is a pri cct when a pause is inserted it is necessary to insert a *3 (turn dtmf on) before the pause, ie *9.

Example: Insert Field 18881234567*9*2*39876543210*2

The 1800 number 18881234567
*9 (pause 1 second)
*2 (wait for dial tone)
*3 (turn dtmf on)
9876543210 (Carrier pic code)
*2 (wait for dial tone)

In the delete field it is necessary to delete the leading digit, typically 9

More Information
The field technician servicing the site should first attempt to manually dial the 1800 number, and write down the pause length as well as whether to wait for dial tone and when before attempting to program the pbx to insert the 1800 number and the carrier code.
