Article Title
PMS Text Messaging and Message Waiting Lights
Publish Date
Sep-6-2005

Description/Symptoms
Message waiting status is unclear when voice mail and PBX PMS are used.

Body/Solutions
When a text message is left for a guest at the front desk, the associate would then enter into the PMS server the details of the text message. The PMS in turn sends 2 messages. One to the voice mail system, and one to the PBX.
The message to the voice mail is simply that there is a text message. If the guest logs into their mailbox before getting the message, the Emem will tell the guest that there is a text message at the front desk. It says this when the user first logs in, immediately after telling the caller the voice message count for the mailbox. The MWI is NOT turned on by the voice mail system as there is no message in the guests' mailbox.
The message sent to the PBX is to turn on the lamp for a given room. If the user dials the call sender of oldest message, they will be rerouted to the dial 0 point for their tenant. The lamp will go out upon contact with an attendant.
If the user sees their lamp on, and dials voice mail directly and hears that there is a message for them at the front desk, all they need to do is dial 0, and the voice mail will transfer the user to the attendant where they can pick up their text message.

Please note that some voice mail systems (such as NuPoint Messenger) do turn the lamp on for text messages. For these types of voice mail systems, there will be 2 messages left at a guest's set, which could result in the guest calling voice mail, but no message is present.
